The HUB Becomes a Living Lab and Opens New Pathways in Sustainable Agriculture
New opportunities for international collaborations, knowledge exchange, and participation in initiatives shaping the future of sustainable agricultural production are emerging for the American Farm School, following the official recognition of its Innovation HUB as a Living Lab and its inclusion in the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) — the world’s leading open-innovation community. This distinction places the School among Europe’s top organizations and marks it as the only Greek member in this global ecosystem.
Since its establishment, the Innovation HUB has played a pivotal role in supporting and empowering the agri-food sector. Through targeted initiatives, it helps farmers adapt to climate change, strengthens sustainability across all stages of production, promotes smart farming through advanced digital tools, and highlights Greece’s agricultural cultural heritage by protecting local varieties and biodiversity. “Our goal is practical, applicable innovation that reaches the end user and supports their everyday work,” HUB representatives note.
The HUB operates through a collaborative, co-creation model in which farmers, researchers, businesses, and public institutions design and test solutions under real-life conditions. This philosophy lies at the heart of the Living Lab concept: a dynamic, real-world environment where technologies, tools, and services are tested and improved directly in the field rather than in controlled spaces. Users actively participate, providing feedback that leads to practical and mature applications.
Joining ENoLL unlocks access to partnerships with leading digital-agriculture organizations, participation in European projects, and the exchange of expertise that collectively elevates the Greek agri-food sector.
